This week I’m talking about Taylor Swift. I think Taylor is one of those people you either love or hate. While I’m not going to say I’m a massive fan, I must admit that since the release of her new album I’ve been keeping a close eye on her and in my opinion she’s coming off in a really good light.
Let’s talk about her last two songs, both of which I love. Shake it Off and Blank Space are hitting back at all the people who have talked about Taylor and her love/ personal life over the course of the past few years. Instead of commenting about it publicly she has said what she needs to say through her music and I think she has done it really effectively.
Her Shake it Off video which you can see here shows her completely taking the piss out of herself. I love her carefree attitude, she’s in front of millions and continues to be herself. Props to her for this tune too, one of my faves at the minute.
When it comes to the fashion stakes I think she absolutely hits it out of the park. When it comes to the red carpet she’s on a totally different level. I remember tweeting about this number when she wore it at the Grammy’s earlier this year and I still love it.
Just last night she performed at the Victoria’s Secrets fashion show and in this photo she doesn’t look a bit out of place surrounded by supermodels!
For a lady of the young tender age of 24, she isn’t doing too badly. I’m sure by the time I hit 24 I’ll have her wealth, talent and killer body! I’m really looking forward to seeing where Taylor Swift goes from here. I never classed myself as a fan but now that I’m writing this post I’m wondering is she planning to tour here in Ireland? Just crossed over the line to FAN. And I’m not one bit sorry, love her look, music and attitude and that’s why she’s this week’s woman of the week!
Until next time,
That is a cold one out there today ladies! With this set to continue and many saying we’re in for a cool winter, I’ve taken a look at some staple faces that will keep us toasty while still looking good.
Luckily there are so many amazing coats in the shops this season, we are spoilt for choice. Whether it’s a fur number, or something smart for the office, invest in a coat and you’ll wear it all season. I think River island have been leaders in the coat department this season and I love this khakia and leather one fro River Island for casual wear. I also love this Houndstooth one from Vila who also have an impressive range of coats this season.
The hat can be difficult to pull of but what about these Pinterest beauties. Even a headband can add something to your outfit. Fur is everywhere at the minute and I’m loving this look on Cara Delevigne which can totally dress up your outfit. The fur hat is from River Island and while it may be harder to pull of than the headband I think it could look really cool.
Now I’m not saying you have to get a scarf that’s on Lenny Kravits level, but I do think everyone needs a good winter scarf…or 5. Zara have the most amazing big chunky scarfs which will have you feeling cosy and fashionable. Buying something in a neutral colour means you can wear it with any outfit, here are a few of my fave pics and lets not forget about Penneys, they always have affordable super stylish scarves 🙂 This cowl style scarf is gorgeous.
So to sum it all up, looking cozy is key, fur can glam up any outfit you have and investing in a coat you love will mean never being stuck in the cold in something that doesn’t keep you warm.
Hope this helps during the cold snap.
Until next time,
Long time Grey’s anatomy fan speaking!! I’ve recently went back to series 1 and am well on my way to watching every single episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve always been an avid fan but I lost touch around series 7 or 8. But thankfully I’ve come to my senses and I’ve returned, getting through episodes at an alarming rate. I’ve just hit series 5 and the obsession is growing if anything.
There’s only one lady for the job when talking about my Woman of the Week when it comes to Grey’s Anatomy and the award goes to Dr. Miranda Bailey. She is one of the most humorous, yet ambitious characters in the programme and she is definitely one of my favourites.
The women has drive, work ethic and a stare that has scared many a grown man. She earns peoples respect especially the Chief of Surgery. She’s a multi tasker, who can be seriously tough on her residents and interns but once in a while we get to see her soft side and it turns out that she’s as compassionate as they come. The mother figure throughout she guides Meredith and co and she’s a pleasure to watch.
Now I know I bowed out of the whole healthcare career path but if I was going to go back there I’d be following this ladies lead! If I could demand respect like she does I’d be a happy lady, even people who rank above her in the hospital can feel her wrath and she’s never afraid to show it!
Number one lesson from Bailey, don’t take shit and make sure you are heard! Defo bringing that with me through life. Will you be doing the same?
Until next time,
Women have gone crazy for the cape trend and I am among them!! Instagram has made us all jealous of those who can afford the amazing personalised Burberry capes pictured below. My favourites Olivia P and Cara Delevigne are just some of the celebs who’ve been spotted out and about in them.
Luckily there are high street options. I’ve invested in this one from Miss Selfridge. You can’t see it really clearly here but the colours are actually really warm as you can see in the swatch and it’s perfect with jeans and boots for our current winter weather.
River Island have this one which I also love.
2 posts in one week, I’m excelling myself! I mentioned in my last post how I plan to write a new weekly feature, I’m all about girl power so each week I’ll be writing about different influential woman and the lessons we can learn from them.
I have a long list of the ladies that inspire me and I’m looking forward to sharing them with you all. I think the obvious choice for this week is my favourite Desperate Housewife Miss Eva Longoria. Her antics around the capital this week have made her a firm favourite with the native Irish folk and we’ve loved seeing her having fun during #WebSummit week.
From her full Irish in Bewleys, her visit to the Book of Kells, picking up some staples in River Island all followed by a well-deserved bag of Tayto and a tipple of Jameson she looks like she had a great time. I’ve included some pictures because let’s face it she’s nice to look at.
She is mainly known for being a gorgeous actress in particular for her desperate Housewives role as Gabby Solise, a lady who we can also learn a few lessons from!
Let’s not forget her advice and insights she gave during her interview at the Web Summit. Her opinions on ageism in the workplace, and how she has been treated due to her fame are admirable. What is also admirable is how she has set up The Eva Longoria foundation, a charity to provide education and career training for disadvantaged Latinas.
My main reason for writing these weekly features is because I love hearing stories about successful women. While times are changing, many of the same barriers still face women in the workplace and beyond. Eva is a driven activist and business savvy lady. She is worth a whopping $35 million dollars and while much of it comes from acting you can be sure that her sponsorship deals and books as well as other business ventures bring in more than enough to pay the bills. Her philanthropic work and kind nature shows that fame hasn’t gone to her head and she’s keen to make a difference.
Speaking of girl power I’m graduating tomorrow 🙂 🙂 the pals I’ve made throughout my Masters year are on their way to great things. I know that I, like others are looking forward to building a career. My lovely friend Claire has just spent the week brushing shoulders (direct quote) with Miss Eva herself at the Web summit and we’re only out of college a month. As you can see, she also got to practice her selfie game with Adam Richman.
We are on the way to great things and who knows, hopefully we’ll be woman of inspiration to many in years to come. New life goal…get someone to write a blog post about my amazingness.
Until next time,
Ok so in mid September I said I was back to blogging regularly but I actually mean it this time. A lot has changed, I’ve just got my foot on the bottom of the career ladder and it feels great. Terrifying at times as I’d go back to college in a heartbeat (purely for the 2 hours lunches) but it’s time to grow up and I’m really excited by some of the projects I’m working on.
My new jobs both involve writing content for publishing on line, and it’s all well and good because I love to write. But the other day when I was researching to write a salary survey for the financial services sector I found myself thinking about writing about dresses and shoes and anything to do with dresses and shoes 🙂
So I’m back, I’ll be posting a couple of times a week and have an idea for a weekly feature going forward. And of course there’ll be plenty of dresses, shoes and maybe even a few opinion pieces. Looking forward to getting back in to it!
So I’m back….what originally started out as a college assignment became more than that and over the last little while I’ve missed my little blog. I keep finding myself thinking of topics to write on and pictures to share with you all the time. So stay tuned for more…there’s loads on the way 🙂
